The Association of Equine Health Professionals was created specifically to support those individuals and organizations that provide preventative and alternative therapies that are part of established livestock practices. These professionals are committed to maintaining and improving the health of the horses with which they work. This care is considered not the practice of veterinary medicine, but rather it is in addition to that care given by a veterinarian.
Organize equine health care providers to provide a political base
Develop professional standards of care
Promote preventative and non-traditional natural equine health care
Monitor and respond to legislation impacting equine care
Educate horse owners and support their right to choose quality and competent care
The objectives of AEHP are:
Provide a communication resource to all equine health caregivers, including a web site and an electronic newsletter informing membership of national and local issues impacting their profession.
Promote Professional Education to Membership
Educate the general public and the horse owner as to the value of preventative and non-traditional natural health care as a supplement to traditional veterinary medicine.
Coordinate and promote the efforts of current equine health-care professionals, their schools, professional organizations, and ad-hoc groups to develop standards of care for each discipline of care.
Monitor and impact legislation affecting the equine health industry; develop the ability to lobby at the legislative level as well as engage the veterinary community in dialogue about issues affecting the care of horses.
Develop a system to promote the services of individual AEHP members to the horse owner
